Overview of Tenchinage
Tenchinage - Heaven and Earth throw.
Tenchinage is a technique which varies dependant on Ukes power of attack. If Uke does not attack with full force, it is possible to use this technique to drive through into Uke to take him back in the direction he came. If Uke attacks powerfully and with good posture, this technique can be transformed into a negative variation to absorb and re-direct the attack. The use of correct leading and distance is critical to make this technique work. In most cases, Nage uses a zig-zag movement on entry to enable the re-direction of attack. This becomes more subtle as it becomes understood.
