Overview of Shihonage

Shihonage - Four direction throw

Shihonage is a technique which encompasses all of the characteristics of Aikido.
The technique can be applied in any of the four directions, backwards, forwards, sideways and has an almost infinite amount of adaptations. The use of Aikido principles such as blending, extension and rotation are all contained within this technique.

The clips presented in these examples are all based around Shihonage. At first sight many of these techniques appear quite different, but the principles behind them cross over all of these examples.

The 'Basic' form techniques are the same method as taught by the early instructors in the UK, namely Sns Kenshiro Abbe, Sns Tadashe Abe, Sns Ken Williams, Sns Masahiro Nakazono.
